Hubungan Antara Ketagihan Telefon Pintar dan Persepsi Stres dalam Kalangan Pelajar Universiti (Relationship between Smartphone Addiction and Perception of Stress among University Students)
Abstract
Stres merupakan salah satu emosi yang normal dan sihat. Walau bagaimanapun, ia boleh merosakkan dan menganggu fungsi kehidupan seseorang itu. Justeru, stres merupakan salah satu elemen psikologi yang menjadi perhatian para pengkaji apabila menyelidik tentang ketagihan telefon pintar. Terdapat banyak kajian lepas yang menunjukkan bahawa stres yang timbul dari ketagihan telefon pintar dapat memberikan kesan yang buruk kepada kesihatan mental dan fizikal seseorang individu. Maka, kajian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan hubungan antara ketagihan telefon pintar dan persepsi stres individu dalam kalangan pelajar Universiti di Malaysia. Kaedah pensampelan mudah telah dijalankan dengan mengedarkan soal selidik dengan pautan Google Form di platform media sosial iaitu WhatsApp, Instagram dan Facebook. Sejumlah 165 orang pelajar universiti di serata Malaysia telah secara sukarela melengkapkan soal selidik yang mengandungi soalan yang berkaitan latar belakang personal, persepsi stres dan ketagihan telefon pintar. Hasil analisis korelasi Pearson telah menunjukkan terdapat hubungan positif dan sederhana yang signifikan antara ketagihan telefon pintar dan persepsi stres, r=.31**, p<.001. Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa semakin meningkat skor ketagihan penggunaan telefon pintar dalam kalangan responden, semakin tinggi tanggapan stres. Kajian ini mempunyai dua implikasi yang utama terhadap bidang psikologi dan praktis. Hasil kajian ini dapat membantu memperluaskan kefahaman tentang ketagihan telefon pintar dan kesejahteraan psikologi. Di samping itu, hasil kajian ini juga dapat membantu profesion menolong seperti kaunselor, ahli terapi dan pekerja sosial bagi mengendalikan klien yang mempunyai isu ketagihan telefon pintar. Pengkaji mencadangkan kajian pada masa akan datang perlu menggunakan sampel yang lebih besar dan memfokuskan pembolehubah psikologi seperti kesejahteraan psikologi, daya tindakbalas dan regulasi emosi.

Abstract: Stress is one of many types of normal and healthy emotions. However, stress can be destructive and interrupts an individual’s daily function. Hence, stress remains one of the psychological elements that has been the focus of many researchers interested in examining smartphone addiction. There is much past research that shows that stress that occurs because of smartphone addiction is related to disastrous outcomes to an individual’s mental and physical health. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between smartphone addiction and the perception of stress among university students in Malaysia. The convenience sampling method was carried out by distributing questionnaires using Google Form links via social media such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. A total of 165 university students from around Malaysia have volunteered to complete questionnaires with questions relating to personal background, perception of stress, and smartphone addiction. Results from Pearson correlation analysis showed that there is a significant positive and moderate relationship between smartphone addiction and perception of stress, r=.31**, p<.001. Findings in this study showed that the higher the score for smartphone addiction among respondents, the more stressed respondents were. This study has two main implications for the field of psychology and practice. Findings from this study could help to expand the understanding of smartphone addiction and psychological well-being, Furthermore, findings from this study may help professionals such as counsellors, therapists and social workers handling clients with smartphone addiction issues. The researchers suggest that future studies use a larger sample size and focus on psychological variables such as psychological well-being, coping, and emotion regulation.
