Keberkesanan Pendekatan Narrow Reading terhadap Kefahaman Membaca Teks Islamik

Abstract


Pelajar pengajian Islam perlu cekap menguasai sumber primer bidang pengajian Islam yang hampir keseluruhannya dalam bahasa Arab. Hal ini boleh direalisasikan melalui pembentukan dasar pengajaran dan pembelajaran pengajian Islam yang betul. Pendekatan Narrow Reading (NR) adalah salah satu teknik pemilihan teks bacaan ekstensif yang bertujuan meningkatkan kecekapan membaca berdasarkan topik atau bidang tertentu. Kajian ini bertujuan menilai keberkesanan teknik NR dalam meningkatkan kefahaman membaca teks Islamik oleh pelajar pengajian Islam. Seramai 47 pelajar fakulti pengajian Islam telah dipilih sebagai sampel. Reka bentuk kajian eksperimental digunakan dengan melaksanakan intervensi kepada sampel kajian. Hasil kajian diperolehi menerusi analisis Paired t-test dan eta squared. Dapatan menunjukkan perbezaan yang signifikan dalam kefahaman teks Islamik setelah intervensi NR diterapkan dan saiz kesan intervensi juga besar. Dapatan diperkukuhkan dengan analisis linguistik teks bacaan yang digunakan. Kajian mendedahkan beberapa implikasi penting dan mencadangkan kajian lanjutan sebagai kesahan keberkesanan teknik NR kepada pelajar pengajian Islam.

The Effectiveness of The Narrow Reading Approach Towards The Reading Comprehension of Islamic Texts

Students of Islamic Studies need to master the Islamic primary sources as the entire primary source of Islamic studies are mostly in the Arabic language. This can be realized through the formation of proper teaching and learning of Islamic studies. Narrow Reading (NR) is one of the approaches in Extensive Reading aimed at improving reading efficiency by topic or field. This study evaluates the impact of NR techniques to improve reading comprehension of Islamic texts by students of Islamic studies. A total of 47 students from the faculty of Islamic studies were selected as samples for this study. Pre-test and post-test are conducted before and after 2 weeks of NR applied in Extensive Reading activities. Paired t-test analysis is used for test results. The findings show a significant difference in the understanding of Islamic texts after the implementation of NR. Magnitude of the intervention’s effect (eta squared) were huge. The findings are reinforced by usage of linguistic analysis of the Islamic jurisprudence text. The results of the analysis shows the relationship between lexical and semantic. The use of NR techniques is established to assist Islamic studies reduce the burden of understanding Islamic text reading. The study provides important implications and recommends further studies as a validity of the effectiveness of NR techniques for Islamic studies’ students.
