“Saya Suka Tapi Tak Bangga” – Satu Kajian Sikap Bahasa

Abstract


Kajian ini menyelidik tentang sikap bahasa komuniti atas talian yang berbangsa Cina di Kuching, Sarawak. Variasi-variasi yang dikaji ialah bahasa Mandarin Standard, bahasa Mandarin basahan, dialek Hokkien, dan dialek Kantonis. Instrumen pengumpulan data terdiri daripada ujian matched-guise (kaedah tidak langsung) dan soal selidik (kaedah langsung). Sejumlah 403 responden mengambil bahagian dalam survei kajian ini. Dapatan berdasarkan ujian matched-guise dengan sokongan daripada maklum balas responden dalam soal selidik mencadangkan faktor-faktor sosial iaitu kumpulan umur dan taraf sosioekonomi mempunyai pengaruh ke atas penilaian variasi-variasi. Secara keseluruhannya, bahasa Mandarin Standard dan dialek Kantonis dinilai ‘tinggi’ dan ‘positif’ secara konsisten dari kedua-dua dimensi status dan kekitaan, sementara dialek Hokkien dan bahasa Mandarin basahan pula dilaporkan sebagai lebih menyerlah dari dimensi kekitaan berbanding status.
