Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to assess the political literacy of voters in the Port Dickson Parliament, Negeri Sembilan, particularly during the 15th General Election. Political literacy refers to the level of understanding voters have about the political system, citizen rights, and decision-making processes. A total of 385 respondents from various demographic backgrounds participated in the survey. The method used in this study includes surveys or statistical analysis, as well as interviews, to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the use of the methodological approach. The findings show that print media remains the primary source of information, while social media is minimally used. Most voters indicated that party ideology plays a significant role in voting decisions, with many prefer voting for the party rather than individual candidates. Voters in this area also strongly supported values such as integrity, justice, and social responsibility. This study found that education is a strong predictor of political literacy, where voters with higher education are better able to understand the political structure, electoral processes, and voting tendencies, thus becoming more engaged in politics. The factor of access to technology and media is also influenced by education and income, which indirectly affects political literacy among voters. However, voter involvement in political parties remains low, despite a high interest in political talks. This study suggests enhancing political education to expand political literacy, particularly among younger generations. In conclusion, deeper political literacy can foster more meaningful political participation in Malaysia's democratic processes.
