PELAKSANAAN STRATEGI PELAJAR SEBELUM MEMPRAKTIKKAN KEMAHIRAN MENULIS TUGASAN AKADEMIK (The Strategies of Implementing Pre-Academic Writing Assignment Skills)

Masalah berkenaan penguasaan pelajar dalam penulisan akademik semakin membimbangkan ketika tahap kualiti pendidikan semasa terus dipertingkatkan. Penurunan kualiti hasil penulisan, kelemahan diri dan sikap negatif pelajar serta kekurangan guru berkemahiran turut menyumbang kepada masalah ini. Kajian dijalankan bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti strategi pelajar sebelum mempraktikkan kemahiran menulis tugasan akademik dalam kalangan pelajar Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor. Sampel kajian ini adalah seramai 266 orang responden yang melibatkan pelajar dari pelbagai latar belakang akademik. Dapatan kajian ini diperoleh menggunakan kaedah tinjauan yang menggunakan soal selidik sebagai instrument kajian dengan menggunakan persampelan rawak mudah. Hasil kajian menunjukkan 174 pelajar mempunyai minat terhadap kemahiran menulis dan majoriti dari 266 pelajar mengamalkan strategi tertentu untuk memastikan kualiti penulisan akademik yang dihasilkan mencapai tahap yang dikehendaki oleh pelajar dan keperluan tugasan. Ini membuktikan bahawa kualiti sesuatu tugasan akademik memerlukan pelajar mempraktikkan kemahiran merancang, mengurus, dan melaksana yang konsisten untuk memastikan hasil penulisan memperoleh gred yang baik sepanjang masa. Oleh itu, pelajar institusi pendidikan tinggi perlu mempunyai strategi pembelajaran yang tersusun agar segala aktiviti dan tugasan pembelajaran dapat dilaksanakan dengan baik mengikut keperluan dan kehendak program. Pelaksanaan strategi pembelajaran seperti ini penting dalam memastikan pelajar dapat mencapai keputusan gred yang cemerlang bagi setiap kursus yang diambil.

ABSTRACT
Issues with regards to the mastery of students in academic writing are at an alarming rate as the quality of education continues to be enhanced. A low quality of academic writing texts, self-weakness and negative attitudes of students as well as the lack of skilled teachers as guidance to effective writing skills also contribute to this problem. The objective of this study is to identify the strategies that students are able to use for academic writing skills purposes. It has a sample of 266 respondents which involved students from various academic backgrounds. The findings of this study were obtained by using a survey method and questionnaire as the research instruments through simple random sampling. The results showed that 174 students were interested in academic writing skills. The study also showed that 266 students managed to identify the correct writing strategies to use. This is to ensure that an academic writing text has achieved a good structure of writing skill besides being able to fulfill the task requirement of an academic text. This study has proven that to ensure a well written academic text is produced; students must practice consistency in planning, managing, and implementing appropriate writing strategies. Therefore, students in higher learning institutions must be introduced to a structured learning strategy so that learning activities and tasks can be implemented according to the needs and requirements of a program. The implementation of appropriate learning strategies is important to make sure that students are able to achieve good grades in the completion of any written assignments for each course taken in the program.
